Even with optical character recognition, there is still a need to data enter or verify what the system read. Occasionally, this work can be done from home once you've proven yourself with the employer.
Look for evening shifts for data entry (often found thru temp agencies) and once you've built a reputation, see if their servers can be accessed remotely so you could work from home. I think more and more of these jobs will be done at home, but they will extremely short time-lines, what comes in today needs to be in the system tonight, for example, with none of the flexibility you remember.

A real company will want you to have skills (fast typing, 10 key), may want you to know excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but it is rare.
One option is to freelance and bid for data entry jobs. However, you are bidding along with many people and often other countries-so you may have to bid really low just to get a job and/or project.
Another option is to offer data entry services to businesses in your area. It can be done, I know people who have done this but it is not easy to do.

Trust me, I've been through most of the 'well-known' sites...these three are the only ones that I have gotten employment offers/calls from recruiters and hiring managers from. The other sites...not a peep.

The job sounds interesting. They ask for a one time fee of $15 which they claim you will make back with your first response. Is this a scam?

How can I write my job experience section , in my Resume , for this data entry job I had ?
this is what I have so far.I worked at New jersey Transit Authority
and i was entering some kind of poll they did about the transit into the computer ,

Now I do much more than enter info. I'm their call center, dispatcher, order taker and sales assistant. It's taken me ten years to find enough customers to where I'm actually making money.

Frankly, there just isn't all that much pure data-entry work out there any more. Payroll data-entry really has to be done in-house for security concerns, but technology has reduced the amount of data-entry involved for payroll work anyway. And the pay is stinking poor.
